Item Description
Same large 6" size as previous button, but for unknown reason with a distinctly different serifs typeface. Reverse has same style pin and maker's sticker as previous button. The 1944 St. Louis Browns were winners of the American League pennant, albeit during a weakened season as many of Major League Baseball's top stars were overseas fighting in World War II, finishing with a record of 89-65 under manager Luke Sewell. The club was led offensively by one of the best hitting shortstops in baseball history, Vern Stephens, who one day is likely to receive a Hall of Fame selection. The Browns would end up playing the Cardinals in the only all-St. Louis World Series, falling in six tough games. Very tiny wear traces in reflected light. No stain. High gloss. Exc.
