Item Description
3.5", no maker. The 1954 Cleveland Indians won the American League pennant, finishing with one of the best won-loss records of all-time, 111-43 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager,Al Lopez. The offensive leader of the club was future Hall of Famer and past Negro League great Larry Doby. The pitching staff was led by a quartet of Hall of Fame starters, comprising one of the best staffs of all-time: Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Early Wynn and Hal Newhouser. The team is all smiles in this photo as they head to the World Series series against the New York Giants but unfortunately, Hake's York, PA hometown hero, Vic Wertz (second row down from top, fourth from right) was the only Indian who came to play. He batted .500 during the Series and in Game 1, he smashed a ball to the far reaches of the Polo Grounds only to have Willie Mays make "The Catch". The favored Indians were swept 4-0. Extreme edge of this button has all around but barely seen faint age marks. Vast majority remains clean and glossy. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
