Item Description
6.25x9.5" vintage matte silver gelatin photo depicting 35 ballplayers in full uniform posed on a ballfield in front of stadium seating. Back of photo contains handwritten note in lower right-hand corner "1912-Cooper Middle Row 4th From Right, Congalton Bottom Row 2nd From Left". The 1912 Columbus Senators were members of the Class AA American Association finishing in third place with a record of 98-68 under manager Bill Friel. Star pitcher for the club was future MLB pitching ace, Wilbur Cooper, who would go on to pitch for 15 seasons, finishing with a career record of 216-178 with an ERA of 2.89 and 1,252 strikeouts. An astounding total of 27 individuals on this team would go on to play Major League baseball, including other notables: Bunk Congalton, Dixie Davis, Bill Doak, Wally Gerber, Charlie Hemphill, Bill Hinchman, Rudy Hulswitt, Glenn Liebhardt, George McQuillan, Fred Odwell, Gene Packard and George Perring. Image quality of photo is superb, numerous surface wrinkles present throughout photo. Back of photo exhibits evidence of prior scrapbook removal, vintage tape remnants also present along the top and right edge. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
