Item Description
7x9" vintage glossy photo depicting an action shot taken at the 1932 World Series between the Chicago Cubs (NL) and New York Yankees (AL). Photographer's stamp on back indicates "Associated Press Photo" along with original paper caption descriptor dated 9/28/32. The batter, rookie second baseman, Bill Herman, connected for a single off of Yankees starter Charles "Red" Ruffing with Yankees catcher, Bill Dickey standing behind home plate along with the umpire. This 1932 World Series was especially memorable as it included Babe Ruth's famous "called shot" as he pointed over the outfield fence from the batter's box and then proceeded to line the next pitch for a homer in the exact spot that he pointed to. For Herman, 1932 marked the first full season of his MLB career, finishing an amazing ninth place in NL MVP voting that year. Bill Dickey would also go on to a long and illustrious Hall of Fame career winning numerous championships with the Yankees throughout the 1930s. Photo exhibits three pinholes, which do not detract from the overall presentation of the photo. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
