Item Description
6x8 vintage matte silver gelatin photo mounted on thick cardboard to overall dimensions of 6x8-5/8" depicting 13 ballplayers in full uniform along with nine additional gentlemen dressed in formal attire and a young boy with period baseball equipment in the foreground along with team pennant posed on a ball field. We have been unable to ascertain the origins of this ball club. There was a New Orleans Crescent Stars team which played in the Negro Leagues for a couple of seasons in the early 1930s but it does not appear to be this team. Most likely this was a group of local or semi-pro black ballplayers barnstorming and taking on all comers in their local US region. This would certainly make for a very interesting research project with the potential for a nice reward. Image clarity of the photo is superb. Mount displays some age wear around the edges, back exhibits lots of scuffing and staining but remains securely intact. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
