Item Description
On Aug. 22, 1989 Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers pitched his 5,000th strikeout (his 5,714 career strikeouts is an MLB record by a significant margin), becoming the only pitcher to record 5,000 career strikeouts. Ryan was elected to the National Baseball HOF in 1999. 18.25x26.25" frame contains "Fort Worth Star Telegram Special Report" newspaper supplement from Aug. 23, 1989 featuring entire front section devoted to Ryan's historic accomplishment. Large photo of Ryan raising his hat in acknowledgement at center below large "5,000 ...And Counting" headline. Ryan has boldly hand-signed in blue felt tip pen at upper right. Newspaper has been laminated (preventing aging of the newsprint) and professionally double-matted and framed as part of a limited edition of 5,000 produced to commemorate the occasion. Top has brass plate w/newspaper name and date while bottom has brass plate w/Ryan's name and "Limited Edition 683 Of 5000" designation. Exc. and makes for wonderful display. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
