Item Description
This 13mm or 1/2" brass shell of Lincoln facing left is catalogued in Dewey Albert's book on American Uniform and Historical Buttons as PC 259A, but his photo example is without its original backing still present on this example. The brass reverse of Lincoln has five pointed tabs holding it to a dark brown fabric mesh which also has very fine circular stitching joining the thin pleated fabric layers of blue, white and red fabric which seem to be silk. The woven brass cords and tassels, secured at the bottom edge of the brass, are 2.75" long. Red outer edge has small 1/8" burn hole at 5 o'clock and the red outer edge from 8:30-11:30 o'clock has missing bits of fabric. The cockade remains over 90% complete in quite clean condition. The only example known to us. Rare. Fine.
