Item Description
Glossy 3.5x5" Kodak Royal Paper photo shows Shirley Chisholm (1924-2005) later in life and has been signed by Chisholm in black felt tip pen, adding "Always Aim High!" inscription and "4/94" date. Chisholm became the first African-American woman elected to the US Congress in 1968, representing New York's 12th congressional district for seven terms from 1969 to 1983. In the 1972 US presidential election, she became the first African-American candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
