Item Description
One of only two known examples, unusual item consists of brass circle with twisted rope design normally used to hold a celluloid covered pin-back button. The frame is 1.25" dia. On the back is a tin circle with fixed vertical pin. Between this front brass frame and reverse tin fastener, is a fabric with each panel 2.5" wide extending on the left, below the frame edge, 5.25" and on the right 6.25". Left showing Hughie Jennings reads "Pennant 08/"Wee-A-Ah" and right showing Bill Donovan reads "Pennant '09/Our "Bill". Image of sitting tiger is also present as well. The 1909 Detroit Tigers ball club were the champions of the American League with a final regular season record of 98-54 under future Hall of Fame manager Hughie Jennings. Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were the offensive stalwarts of a team that ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a hotly contested 1909 World Series, four games to three. Fabric has slightly darkened over the years, left ribbon has four barely seen pin holes, but the only obvious mark is a .25" brown spot on center of Jennings photo. Fine.
