Item Description
1.25" with Lopez, Boston back paper and spring pin holding team colors ribbons. For their first World Series since 1903, this early Boston button maker superimposed artwork of baseball, bat and "Red Sox" stocking dated at the top "1912". The 1912 Boston Red Sox won the American League pennant with one of the best won-loss records of all-time, 105-47, under manager Jake Stahl. The offensive spark was provided by the National Baseball Hall of Fame outfield duo of Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper. Speaker enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career in 1912 with a .383 batting average and 52 stolen bases. Hooper played sterling defense while scoring 98 runs and stealing 29 bases. Leading the mound corps was Smokey Joe Wood, who finished with one of the greatest pitching lines in AL history, winning 34 games while losing only 5 with a 1.91 ERA and 258 strikeouts in 344 innings pitched. Cream color of right edge has mere trace of tone. Some ribbon wear, Fine. Button is glossy, Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
