Item Description
1.75" no maker. Spring pin holding ribbon and a loop with brass chain but nothing on the chain. Like previous lot #764, this was vendor re-purposed at the time from an earlier button by applying a decal. The button was originally used in 1938 for "Chicago Cubs". The 1943 St. Louis Cardianls won the National League pennant with a final record of 105-49 under future National Baseball Hall of Fame manager, Billy Southworth. The offense was led by all-time outfield great, Stan "The Man" Musial, another future Hall of Famer. The Cardinals would go on to lose the 1943 World Series to the powerful New York Yankees, 4 games to 1. Small losses of decal edge and some stain below it. Trace of oxidation on the back. Still full gloss and Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
