Item Description
Impressive giant cardinal on 6" dia. gold background. Cardboard reverse has sticker of maker St. Louis Button Co, plus (as made) three short wires holding oversized safety pin fastener. The 1944 St. Louis Cardinals won the National League pennant once again with a record of 105-49 under future National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Billy Southworth. Once again, Stan "The Man" Musial led the offensive charge, finishing the season with a .347 batting average to go along with 12 homers and 94 RBI's. St. Louis would go on to defeat the cross-town rival, St. Louis Browns, 4 games to 2, to take the 1944 World Series (see next lot WS variant). All over typical surface scratches in reflected light but nothing that shows with normal viewing. There is one tiny raised surface bump and two slightly raised .5" curved lines on the cello surface, all in the making. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
