Item Description
First example Hake's has offered, 1.75" w/spring pin holding 4" ribbon. No maker. Rare single-day issue button in conjunction with a committee event on June 9, 1933. Honus Wagner was the superstar shortstop for the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates ball club, finishing the season with a National League leading .339 batting average along with 5 homers and a league leading 100 RBI's as well as a league leading total of 39 doubles. Honus is widely regarded as the greatest all-around shortstop in Major League Baseball history, finishing with career numbers of .328, 101 HR's, 1,732 RBI's, 1,739 R's, & 723 SB'S. Wagner was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the five player inaugural class in 1936, joining fellow all-time greats: Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson.  Ribbon slight dust soil and a few light creases, Fine. The button, only in reflected light, has a very light hairline scratch on left from just above his eye crossing diagonally to neck on right side. There are additional but also very light scratches from his nose downward mostly to the right. However, none of these show with normal viewing. The celluloid has high gloss and button remains Exc. Certainly produced in very small number for "Committee" members. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
