Item Description
3.5" no maker. Real photo portrait. Additional text "At Yankee Stadium=10-1-61" plus "Bos." and "N.Y." line score highlighted by a hand inscribed (under the acetate and as made) red numeral "1" in the bottom of the 4th inning to represent Maris' record setting achievement. Also listed are "Losing Pitcher-Tracy Stallard (2-7)" and "Winning Pitcher- Bill Stafford (14-9)".  Although his teammate, Mickey Mantle had to give up the home run chase a couple of weeks earlier due to injury, Roger Maris persevered and ultimately eclipsed Ruth's record by hitting his 61st home run on the season's final day as commemorated on this button. Roger's accomplishment would be noted in the record books with an asterisk next to it as he needed a total of 162 games to accomplish the feat while "The Babe" hit his 60 homers during a 154 game season. A single pinpoint cello rub on extreme edge at 2 o'clock. Glossy, Exc. The rarer of two "Salute" buttons, see next lot. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
