Item Description
3.5" no maker. While the text is the same as the previous lot, this button has a different photo and with a dot screen. Also, to speed production to meet demand, the maker ceased hand inscribing each button paper with a red ink "1" and simply did the line score in all black printed numerals. Although his teammate, Mickey Mantle had to give up the home run chase a couple of weeks earlier due to injury, Roger Maris persevered and ultimately eclipsed Ruth's record by hitting his 61st home run on the season's final day as commemorated on this button. Roger's accomplishment would be noted in the record books with an asterisk next to it as he needed a total of 162 games to accomplish the feat while "The Babe" hit his 60 homers during a 154 game season. Some very tiny raised bumps can be felt around the outer edge. Only the slightest surface wear. High gloss. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
