Item Description
Seven approx. 16x19" screentone artboards featuring highly detailed pen and ink original art by Pete Millar (1929-2003), illustrator, cartoonist and drag racer known for his work w/CARtoons and DRAG Cartoons magazines. Art is for complete The Big Drag Race cover story which parodies the 1964 US Presidential election, featuring caricatures of prominent politicians and candidates participating in a meeting of The Natural Hot Dog Affiliation to elect a new club president. President Lyndon B. Johnson appears as does Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey, William Miller and others, showing both "Elby Jay" and "Berry Goldrodder" preparing their hot rods for the race. Of note, caricatures of Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and Ringo Starr appear in story and two Rat Finks are seen being picked up by LBJ in one panel. Last page has DRAG Cartoons' call for "vote" for the actual presidential candidates w/mail-in pasted stat information. Millar has signed at bottom of panel above this. Artboards have been trimmed but all art remains complete and unaffected. Various publishing notations at bottom margins, along w/"DRAG Issue" stamp w/handwritten page numbers. Art remains clean and Exc. Great satirical original art. From the Archives of Publisher Pete Millar.
