Item Description
13.5x20-5/8" artboard features pen and ink original art, layouts by Jack Kirby (1917-1994) w/pencils by John Romita Sr., inked by Frank Giacoia (1924-1988) as Frank Ray for Tales Of Suspense #77, published by Marvel May 1966. Art is for page 2 of If A Hostage Should Die! Captain America story by Stan Lee and features six panels, showing Captain America out of costume as Steve Rogers, watching news report on Captain America's World War II exploits while reminiscing about his lost love Peggy Carter (who made her first appearance in this issue), and is seen in photograph in two panels. Of note, Steve mentions the death of his partner Bucky (who has since returned to the world of comics as Winter Soldier) in his laments. Steve (or his hands) is seen in every panel, first panel showing him in Captain America uniform on TV. Top margin has stamped Tales Of Suspense title and has inked issue/page numbers and month of publication. Top margin also has extensive penciled editorial notations pertaining to action of this page. Similar text along bottom margin. Back has Comics Code Authority inkstamp and some penciling at top w/numbered label. 1" surface paper lifts at corners as once mounted. Margins have some scattered dust soiling w/some small spots of marker at center left/right and at top left. Fifth panel has small streak of staining but o/w art remains clean and would make for Exc. display if framed.
