Item Description
3.5"x5-3/8" vintage matte postcard depicting an action photo of Toronto Maple Leafs star outfielder Jack Thoney. Caption at bottom of photo on front reads "Thoney on his way to first base - Opening game - Toronto - 1907". A capacity crowd at the ballpark is present in the background while an unidentified catcher and umpire can be seen in this wonderful image. The 1907 Toronto baseball team was a member of the Class A Eastern League and would go on to win the pennant that season with a final record of 83-51 under future HOF selectee, manager Joe Kelley. Although his Major League career would be quite brief, Thoney enjoyed several excellent seasons in the minors from 1903-12. A zealous fan has handwritten a note on the divided back, noting the excellence of Thoney but the postcard remains postally unused. Lt., even corner wear present along with a lt. stain at top on back. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
