Item Description
3.5"x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting 17 ballplayers in full uniform posed posed on a bench in front of a wooden fence. Publisher's credit on back reads "The Bey Engraving Co., Williamsport, PA". The 1907 Williamsport team finished in first place in the Class B Tri-State League with a final record of 86-38 under manager Harry Wolverton. An amazing total of 15 ballplayers from this club would go on to play Major League baseball, with the most prominent being: Slim Sallee, Birdie Cree, Rube Manning, Jimmy Sebring, Rube Vickers, Tom Walker and Harry Wolverton. Handwritten message inside the lower border on front along with mailing address on back but no postal cancellation stamp. Postcard exhibits lt. creasing in a few spots, including a horizontal crease that spans nearly the entire photo. Back of postcards exhibits scattered foxing/staining. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
