Item Description
3-3/8" x 5-3/8" vintage silver gelatin postcard depicting 15 members of the Rockford Reds baseball club posed on a bench with period baseball equipment in the foreground and stadium seating in the background. During the first half of the 1910s the Rockford ball club played in the Class D Wisconsin-Illinois League under manager George Bubser. The team would undergo a couple of name changes, first to the Rockford Wolverines from 1911-13 and then to the Rockford Wolves in 1914, after which, the Wisconsin-Illinois League disbanded. Rockford did capture the league title in 1911 with a final record of 74-46. Clarity of the image presented here is superb. Divided postcard back remains blank and unused with the AZO stamp box dating the card to 1904-18, which is consistent with the subject matter pictured. Scattered foxing visible on back with lt., even corner wear. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
