Item Description
Errol McCarthy is an artist/illustrator noted for his work on Peterson Publishing titles Hot Rod Cartoons, CARtoons and Cycletoons as well as for his later work on popular toylines like Hot Wheels and Masters of the Universe. Offered here is 14x20.25" artboard w/applied sheet of vellum bearing pen and ink original art (w/screentone accents) for one-page "Horse Sense" story. Peterson Publishing title (either Hot Rod Cartoons of CARtoons), 1970s. Art features four panels, and shows young man putting the biggest possible engine in his street rod, only for his girlfriend to point out there's nowhere to sit. Looking at his homely love and comparing her large nose to that of a horse in his mind, the last panel reveals he has added a chariot to the back of the street rod, claiming her as inspiration. Last panel has cut-out original art that was used to create stats for engine and chassis in prior panels. This applied art has been secured w/piece of archival tape at bottom left. Vellum has evenly aged but art remains clean and Exc. aside from some minor margin aging. Artboard has attached stiff paper overlay. Errol McCarthy Collection.
