Item Description
1.25" w/Brunt Co. San Francisco, CA back paper. Oval portraits of "Big Bill" Haywood general secretary of the Western Federation of Miners and Charles Moyer president of the WFM. In 1906 the pair, along w/activist George Pettibone, were arrested and charged w/the murder of former Idaho Gov. Frank Steunberg after notorious Pinkerton detective James McParland coerced assassin Albert Horsley into implicating them. The arrests and trials produced headlines across the nation. Clarence Darrow defended Haywood who was found not guilty in July of 1907. After the trial Eugene Debs called Haywood "the Lincoln of Labor". In 1908 Pettibone was acquitted and charges against Moyer were dropped. A cello separation on curl at 12 o'clock and at 10 o'clock that occurred in manufacturing. Minor oxidation on collet and moderate surface wear in reflected light. VF. Among the most historic labor buttons we've offered in our 54 years.
