Item Description

3-3/8"x5-3/8" vintage matte postcard depicting 12 team members posed on a ballfield with period baseball equipment visible. The only form of team identification appearing in the photo is a large "I" on the uniform of each player. While we can't say for certain, it appears that this is a local semi-pro team comprised of African American ballplayers, looking to take on all comers as was common during the era. The AZO stamp box present on the divided postcard back dates the image to 1904-18. Image retains superb quality with significant but even rounding on corners with a small chip missing from the lower right-hand corner. An approximate 2" crease goes from the left edge towards center along with scattered foxing/staining throughout. Back remains blank and unused with a 1.5" piece of archival tape used to repair a tear near rt. edge. Good. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
