Item Description
10.5" long tin litho friction police car toy w/plated grilles/bumpers, wire spring antenna and rubber tires. Made in Japan by Mirua Toy Co., 1970s. Front of hood is marked "Chevrolet" and roof features image of Osamu Tezuka's iconic manga character Mighty Atom, better known in the US as Astro Boy. Back of car has large "Atom Patrol" name in English. Doors features shield design w/smaller "Atom Patrol" name. Side also feature additional image of Mighty Atom as well as Mighty Atom supporting characters like his sister Uran, Professor Ochanomizu and Higeoyaji. Toy shows scattered wear in the form of paint nicks/scratches and grilles/bumpers have aged w/loss to flashing. Friction works well, producing loud siren noise as car proceeds forward. Underside has inward dent w/some streaks of bare metal w/lt. oxidation showing. This affects setting of one rear wheel, but still works and car remains Fine for display. Rare.
