After beginning his professional baseball career in the Negro Leagues playing for the Kansas City Monarchs during the mid-1940's, Robinson would later sign a contract for Branch Rickey's Brooklyn Dodgers ball club and ultimately broke the long-standing color barrier in Major League Baseball on April 15, 1947.
