Item Description
7/8" w/union back stamp. Likely c. 1910-1920. Minor surface wear only in reflected light. NM. Berkman played a significant role in US Labor & Anarchist history- incarcerated 14 years for the attempted murder of Henry Frick after shooting the chairman of the Carnegie Steel Co. during the Homestead Steel Strike; publishing the radical journal Mother Earth w/Emma Goldman; organized industrial disputes inc. the Lawrence textile strike; campaigned against US involvement in WWI; published Anarchist journal Blast; was arrested in connection w/the Preparedness Day parade bombing on July 22, 1916 that ultimately sent Tom Mooney to prison for 23 years and was charged w/violating the Espionage Act. He and Goldman were deported in 1919. Only the second example we've offered in our 54 years.
