Item Description
The 1953 Topps set was originally planned for 280 cards but six players did not agree to contracts with the card company and, therefore, had to be omitted from that season's issue. Cards feature painted player pictures with/team logo appearing on bottom panel. Card backs contain the first baseball card trivia questions along with brief stats and player bios. As is the case with most of the card sets that include Mickey Mantle, "The Mick" is once again the most widely collected and valuable card issued. Card is from his third season and is just the second card of Mantle ever issued by Topps.  What takes this card to another level is the fact he boldly signed it in blue felt tip pen. This occurred in 1981 when the consignor picked Mickey up at the Harrisburg airport and transported him to an event at York College (which is documented in their yearbook, photo shown online). While he almost always signed cards w/his first name above his last, on this example he signed all on one line, w/the bold signature running edge to edge. Card presents nicely and signature is near perfect. Signed Mantle cards, especially one this early, are highly sought after. Comes w/Hake's COA.
