Item Description
1". Kent Novelty Co. of Pittsburgh back paper. Features a photo of Wagner from his days as a Pittsburgh player in uniform and seated holding a bat. The button is from 1925 following his playing days (and before he became manager of the Pirates) when he ran for the office of sheriff. He tried for the Republican party nomination but lost to the party's chosen candidate and instead ran on the Labor Non-Partisan ticket, losing again in the November election to the GOP candidate. A strip of missing celluloid from 1 o'clock to 3 o'clock on rim curl and only visible from the reverse. Construction remains stable and this defect likely occurred in manufacturing. Technically Fine but w/front surface having only lt. wear and full gloss, it remains a choice example for display. A highly sought after and desirable baseball button and Wagner item which is even rarer than his T206 baseball card. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
