Item Description
Original 8x10" glossy photo depicting the great "Bambino", Babe Ruth himself, crossing home plate, likely after one of his three home runs during the 1923 World Series between Ruth's New York Yankees and the NL champions, the New York Giants. Looking on are the home plate umpire along with two of the Babe's teammates, one reaching out to congratulate him and the other approaching home plate for his upcoming turn at bat along with the Giants catcher, Frank Snyder, in full catcher's gear. Stamping on the back for International Newsreel, matching the style of stamping used by this world famous news service from 1922-28, which is consistent with the subject matter presented here. 2" strip of formerly attached paper caption remains across stamping along w/a larger blank piece of caption paper below the stamp area. The 1923 New York Yankees won the American League pennant with a final record of 98-54 under manager, Miller Huggins. The Yanks would go on to defeat their cross-town rival, New York Giants, 4 games to 2 to take the 1923 World Series, which was the franchise's first ever World Championship. Left corners each have small margin piece missing, tiny tip off top right. Lt. handling wear in reflected light. Still display nicely as is w/an image that captures Ruth in all his glory. Photograph has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA as a Type I original.
