Item Description
Heavy 21x30" artboard has mixed media original art for circus poster/program used by Bertram Mills' Circus during the 1927-1928 season. Art features comical depiction of circus elephant wearing mantilla while holding a rose in her mouth and a tambourine in her trunk. Image area measures 16.75x23". Hand-lettered text at top notes times and dates of shows in London, occurring Dec. 27, 1927 to Jan. 24, 1928. Lower left reads "8th Season - And In Every Way The Greatest Show Yet." Bottom of artboard has handwritten text in pencil reading "Design No. 4" and "Double Crown Proposition." Printer registration paste-overs at corner of art. Artboard has a couple pin holes at top margin and shows obvious corner tip/margin wear w/margins being aged w/dust soiling. VG overall. Art has some scattered wear/staining, but could be matted and framed for nice display. Classic circus elephant imagery. Rare and unique circus poster original art. Printed by and from the archives of W.E. Berry, noted English poster printer.
