Item Description
11x17" photocopy (xerographic print) on thin white stock produced before the show for promotion. Advertising a concert "Sat. May 16" at Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus. Text at top right "Formerly Sleze" w/"Alice 'N Chains" logo. Sleze was a Seattle glam metal band that featured a young Layne Staley on vocals and pictured at lower right on this poster. Formed in 1984, Sleze changed their name to "Alice 'N Chains" in 1986 and disbanded in 1987. After the breakup Staley joined guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr carrying along the former band's name w/a minor tweak to Alice In Chains (AIC). Minor edge and corner wear most notably a trivial bend at bottom left. Exc. A fascinating look at Staley, then only 20, well before he rose to international superstar status.

Despite the nearly indistinguishable look from his later years by all accounts Staley had an impressive voice from the start. Fellow Sleze member James Bergstrom recalled his reaction to Staley's audition in an April 5, 2012 article in The Atlantic stating "...Here's this kid. He's got a great sounding voice. He's cool. He could sing on key. And he also had good range and he was soulful, though he was just a raw beginner.' So we knew we had something special, and we were like in heaven from then, man. We became a band."
