Item Description
The buttons are 3" both by N.G. Slater, NYC. The medallion is 1-9/16" of white metal with gold color finish and accented by black, red and green enamel paint and suspended from green and yellow ribbons 24" long to form a 12" neck cord. Don King promised a $10 million purse to be supplied by Zaire's dictator to showcase his country. The undated button was for Sept 25, 1974 fight but Foreman was injured in training and fight was postponed so the second button has re-scheduled date of Oct. 29th, '74. Both buttons essentially Mint and scarce. The medallion was sold at the fight and reads "The Champion Who Saved Boxing" and "Souvenir Of The 1st Heavyweight Championship Fight In Africa/Best Wishes/Muhammad/Ali/Zaire". Ali's "Rope A Dope" tactic wore out Foreman and he was knocked out in the 8th. NM. Rare. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Examples #232-234.
