Item Description
Illustrated cardboard box contains 9.25" tall mostly tin litho wind-up figure w/vinyl head, thin vinyl cape and built-in key. Made in Japan by Popy, 1970s. Based on the Jetter Mars anime series directed by Rintaro and written by Osamu Tezuka, who originally planned the series as an anime remake of his popular manga series Mighty Atom (aka Astro Boy). Unfavorable circumstances during pre-production led him to abandon it temporarily and create Jetter Mars instead. Although it remains as one of Tezuka's lesser known works, it has gained a large cult following. Box shows wear w/heavy crease across top flap and scattered edge/corner tip wear including creases and some small scattered spots of staining. VG/Fine. Figure has some scattered aging and lt. wear w/tiny nick to cape. Arms show trace wear and wind-up is Fine/VF overall. Scarce.
