Item Description
4" w/metal back and horizontal bar pin. Additional text "Johnson/For President/Williams/For U.S. Senator/AFL-CIO-C.O.P.E." Trivial stray red ink in field at left as made. Exc. Williams had a long career and was elected to the Senate in 1958 serving until 1982, making him the first Democratic Senator elected four times. His tenure ended on a sour note when he was convicted in the Abscam bribery scandal and the Senate Committee on Ethics recommended his expulsion for "ethically repugnant conduct." A key New Jersey local and LBJ coattail that is rarely offered.
