Item Description
10x18" paper sign blank with area at right where store/price/product info could be filled in. Rest of sign features detailed information on this "Magic Mysto Cards" series along with sports image representing baseball, football, boxing, swimming, track, tennis and basketball. Additionally, there is an example of card #1, both in original state w/overlay and "exposed" card surface picturing Lou Gehrig (see next two lots for actual card examples). Instructions note images appear after exposure to water, a similar concept was used by several companies over the years, see previous lot for Orbit Gum. The "Cover" of each card had clues and info on the sports star to be revealed. ©1951 Premium Specialties, Chicago- A Gordon Gold company. Gordon, and his father Sam, are legends in the "Premium" world and we have sold much from their archives over the years, but this is the only example of this sign we have ever seen (or of the cards for that matter). After much research we believe this series was never put into production. Sign has five vertical creases running top to bottom (one w/archival tape repair on back). Staple holes on margins. Trace of aging. Still displays nicely, Fine. A true rarity for the sports card collector and Gehrig completist.
