Item Description
11x17" photocopy (xerographic print) produced before the show for promotion. On thin white stock signed in print at lower right "Bret 83". Promoting a concert featuring Metallica billed as "The Heaviest Band Known To Man" w/opening band Wild Dogs billed as "Portland's Metal Madmen." Terrific graphics of Gibson Flying V guitars leaned up against Marshall stacks flanking the ticket price at bottom r/l. A thin strip of white tape neatly placed horizontally in top margin, a tiny piece along top right edge and a small piece at bottom right repairing a vertical tear. Loss at lower left corner and surface paper lift affecting lower right corner. Two thin pieces of clear tape along top edge w/surface paper lift affecting top left. When poster is held to light there are a few scattered black ink touch ups most notably to "Dogs" at center. VG. The majority of issues are contained to the margins and could be easily matted out once framed. Metallica would rise to experience the kind of fame known only to by generational defining bands but in these early years they cut their teeth on the club circuit. This night found them at Lake Hills Arena better known as Lake Hills Roller Rink, a 1500 capacity skating venue in Bellevue, a Seattle suburb across from Lake Washington. Metallica had recently fired guitarist Dave Mustaine replacing him w/Kirk Hammett creating the band's classic lineup of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Cliff Burton who himself had only recently joined the band playing his first gig in March of 1983. Their studio album debut Kill 'Em All hit the shelves on July 25 and after a short tour the band reconvened in San Francisco to work on new material. They booked several West Coast shows, including this one, to test out these new songs many of which would be included on their 1984 follow up Ride The Lightning. An important and rarely offered early career poster featuring the thrash metal pioneers during their artistic prime.
