Item Description
7.75x9.75".  Dated December 28, 1792. Letter written by Dewitt Clinton, his uncle George's secretary at the time, requesting that the Council permit "An Act To Erect A Town In Clinton County" to "Become A Law Of The State." George Clinton was serving as the Governor of New York at the time of the writing of the letter. He would go on to serve as the Vice President to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, one of only two Vice Presidents to hold that office during two administrations. His nephew, Dewitt Clinton, went on to serve as Mayor of New York City, as well as Governor of New York and United States Senator. Letter has two horizontal folds and even age toning w/traces of soil. Otherwise moderate surface and edge wear. Fine. A rare example featuring the signatures of both the Vice President and his Governor nephew, two of the most prominent politicians and historical figures from New York during the late 18th and early 19th century. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
