Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting 10 team members along with one gentleman dressed in formal attire seated at center posed inside a studio with period baseball equipment in the foreground. Team is identified inside margin to the left of the photo as "Thompsonville Cubs - 1908" with player identifications by last name, position on field and location in the team photo. We have been unable to locate any professional ball club from this era hailing from Thompsonville, Michigan so we believe this to be a town ball team, likely taking on all comers in their local area. Postcard exhibits moderate corner wear with creasing visible along with a 1.75" lt. crease across top, center of the photo. Divided postcard back includes a real photo of a gentleman in formal attire adhered to the message side along with a postal cancellation stamp dated December 13, 1909 from Thompsonville, MI as well as cancellation mark visible on front. Excess glue residue present around all borders of the pasted photo. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
