Item Description
10x14.25" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for Flash Gordon Vol. 2 #33, which reprints stories "Un Novato En La Academia" and "El Retorno De Ming". Published in Spain c. 1981 Ediciones Vertice. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge and showing original composition of Flash Gordon w/spaceship under attack by a prehistoric-like creature. Art also has paper overlay w/cover layout notations and story title lettering. Lt. aging/handling wear. Art remains bright and clean. Displays VF. A wonderful example from the era when Espí's art dominated covers of Spanish comic books, featuring one of sci-fi's timeless characters and is unsigned by artist. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for. Dan Barry interior art of issue that appears to reprint daily strips.
