Item Description
C.C. Beck (1910-1989) was a cartoonist and comic book artist, best known for his work on Captain Marvel at Fawcett Comics and DC Comics. Capitalizing on the surge in popularity The Lord Of The Rings was seeing during the 1970s, Beck created a line of custom made prop weapons inspired by Tolkien's fantasy epic that were sold as special creations by Beck, which we are proud to offer here (and in the following two lots). Each prop weapon is highly detailed and of lightweight construction. 20.5" long double-headed battle axe of Gimli the Dwarf has wooden handle and heavy illustration board blades and adornments; which have been realistically painted to give appearance of patina. Two rhinestone "eyes" to creature's face at top of axe. One axe head has incised signature of Beck and "1975" date. Corner tip wear, but still VF overall. These Beck weapon creations rarely come up for auction and many Beck fans remain completely unaware of their existence. These three are the only examples we have ever been able to offer.
