Item Description
21-7/8x27.75" cardboard standee w/o easel portion applied to back as made. Top features photo portrait of Elvis Presley, beside and above "Singer Presents Elvis - In His First TV Special!" text; Presley's name in simulated spotlights. Standee promotes the Elvis concert special that aired on NBC on Dec. 3, 1968. Sponsored by the Singer Sewing Machine Company, it marked Presley's return to live performance after a seven-year period during which he focused on his film appearances. Initially planned as a Christmas special by the network and Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The concert reflected the musical trends of the time and appeal to a younger audience was created. The special received positive reviews and became the most-watched show of the TV season and re-launched Presley's singing career. Of note, standee has box of text at bottom right noting Elvis would "Sing His Greatest Hits - Guitar Man - Hound Dog - Jailhouse Rock - Love Me Tender - Blue Christmas... And More!" Folded at center as designed, standee has large 13.5" split and shows moderate wear, w/obvious warping to top/bottom sections and moisture staining along left margin and along left side of center fold. This has caused some bubbling/separation of surface paper in 3x5.5" section at bottom left. Center has jagged 3" tear to surface paper at end of split. VG overall. Rare.
