Item Description
11.5x16.5" Sparta illustration board has pen and ink original art for cover to Gigantic Strange Adventures #227, published by DC Comics in Dec. 1970. Art is by Joe Kubert (1926-2012), known for his work on DC characters Sgt. Rock and Hawkman. Art was inked by Gaspar Saladino. Cover features laboratory scene, w/man choking in salt water tank, sending message to scientist's monitor saying he's choking and that he needs more salt, causing the scientist to instruct helper to dump entire bag of salt into water before the man suffocates. Kubert has signed at bottom left corner of art. Top of artboard has large pasted title stat and additional publishing indicia stats and left side features mostly hand-lettered text for additional stories in issue, w/pasted stat of Adam Strange and The Galactic Knights. Back has Comics Code Authority inkstamp. Small strip of glue staining across top of art from missing "The Man Who Couldn't Drown" story title pasteover. Top margin has title abbreviation in grease pencil and artboard has some scattered aging, mainly around pasted sections. VF overall.
