Item Description
This long-running comic strip debuted in 1900 and ran until 1932, its main character the first comic character to transition to the silver screen, appearing in 13 live action shorts in 1900-1903 before being further adapted as a cartoon, of which 52 were released 1916-1921. Hooligan's popularity saw his comics collected in book form along with various merchandise items being produced. Offered here is a 7-7/8x22" thick artboard which has had four thin artboard panels applied, w/each bearing pen and ink original art for 1924 daily strip. Art continues off the applied panels onto bottom portion of inked layout squares. Strip deals w/Hooligan being cut out of his uncle's will and Hooligan attempting to sway him back in his favor by saying he's leaving for Bermuda. This doesn't go as planned, as his uncle asks why he isn't going farther away. Happy Hooligan appears in every panel. Opper has signed last panel and first panel has handwritten Starr Co. copyright. Main artboard shows obvious aging/wear w/corner off bottom left and heavy vertical crease at center. VG overall, but art remains clean aside from some scattered dust soiling and would display VF if matted and framed. For as long as this comic strip ran, original art is scarce.
