Item Description
15-1/8x21" poster printed by H.A. Thomas & Wylie Litho Co. of New York and featuring the art of The Yellow Kid by creator R.F. Outcault, showing the Kid running w/"The Journal" football under his arm. The Kid appears to have a handful of hair in his hand and a toupée labeled as "Me Football Wig" flies off his head. His trademark yellow shirt reads "Here I Go Fer A Touch Down." Left and right margins of poster are jam-packed w/text promoting New York Sunday Journal features, noting More Fun Than You Can Shake A Stick At In... The Colored Supplement" w/further mention of "The Yellow Kid's Monkey And Parrot Time." Poster bears 1896 copyright, shortly after Outcault was hired away from  Joseph Pulitzer's New York World to bring his Yellow Kid character to the pages of William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal American newspaper. Poster has slightly darker aging at margin edges and poster has horizontal fold at center. Scattered margin wear w/a few pin holes and masking/archival tape repairs to edge tears on back. Tiny chip at bottom center. Fine overall, but still retains strong eye appeal and would make for nice framed display. Rare. Ken Johnson Collection.
