Item Description
15.25x20-1/8" poster printed by H.A. Thomas & Wylie Litho Co. of New York and featuring the art of The Yellow Kid by creator R.F. Outcault, showing the Kid leading a goat-drawn cart that carries beautiful woman as drawn by Archie Gunn. Top left has "Horse Show Number Of The Journal's Colored Supplement - Out Sunday Nov. 8th" text, along w/"Order In Advance" text at bottom. This Nov. 1896 date should be noted as this is shortly after Outcault was hired away from  Joseph Pulitzer's New York World to bring his Yellow Kid character to the pages of William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal American newspaper. Poster is evenly aged and has vertical fold at center w/scattered margin wear w/a few pin holes. Bottom margin has seven tears ranging from .25" to 2" that have been restored and top center margin has 1x2.25" V-shaped piece replaced; this has aged somewhat more that original paper. Fine overall, but would make for nice framed display. Rare. Ken Johnson Collection.
