Item Description
The first San Francisco Portola Festival was held October 19-23, 1909. It honored Don Gaspar de Portola, who discovered San Francisco Bay. It was also a celebration of a city which, just three years earlier, lay in ruins. The festival ran each subsequent year until 1913 and a more modern revival. All three buttons carry event name, date and include "San Francisco". The two red rim buttons carry Brunt back papers and one carries initials of groups Native Sons (Daughters) of the Golden West, a fraternal group of those born in California with a passion for preserving California history. These two are scarce and NM with the cream button (no paper) VF and rare. California Button Collection.
