Item Description
5-1/8x7" oversized postcard. Kitty Hawk, NC postmark Dec. 17, 1928 (w/additional Dec. 19 New York, NY postmark) w/"International Civil Aeronautics Conference" stamp. Titled "First To Fly," postcard was issued in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft by the Wright Brothers on Dec. 17, 1903, south of Kitty Hawk, NC (at what is now known as Kill Devil Hills). Front and back show photo images of the Wright Flyer in which Orville Wright (1871-1948) made that historic flight. Wright, of the world famous aviation pioneers the Wright Brothers (who are generally credited w/inventing, building and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane), has signed on back in black ink below photo image, where Orville is seen at the controls of the Wright Flyer. Postcard has some corner tip wear and is evenly aged. Fine overall w/Exc. signature. Rarely seen signed piece. Comes w/JSA LOA. John Grossman Collection.
