Item Description
5x7.5" illustrated paper envelope has classic art from cover of Batman #9 and contain two 4x7.25" decal transfer sheets as issued. This is the earliest known Batman store item (and companion to Superman transfers issued at this time (also in this auction), ©1944 Detective Comics Inc. Envelope has some penciling at top and on back, referencing a "Mr. Samuel," who worked at Fawcett Distributing Corporation (though Fawcett is not mentioned, handwriting matches that seen on Hoppy the Marvel Bunny patch sample letter, see lot #1305, indicating this Batman transfers set as a possible sample as well). Envelope has lt. corner tip wear and is VF overall. Transfers included "Batman" comic title logo plus four Batman transfers, two Batman and Robin transfers, three Robin transfers, Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, The Joker, The Penguin, Linda (Page, Bruce Wayne's girlfriend), Alfred The Demon Detective as well as Batmobile and Batplane. Backs have "Follow The Adventures Of Batman And Robin In Detective Comics - Batman - World's Finest Comics" advertising text. Complete and unused w/just lt. handling wear. Exc. Set was sold for 10¢.
