Item Description
4-7/8x7.5" envelope w/images of comic characters appearing in comics published by The Gilberton Company, Inc., including Popeye, Blondie, Flash Gordon as well as Hans and Fritz of The Katzenjammer Kids. Gilberton is known for publishing Classic Comics (as noted on envelope) as well as the iconic Classics Illustrated and Classics Illustrated Junior. Envelope contains four 3-7/8x7.25" transfer sheets, each w/10 transfers for total of 40 different full color transfer designs of characters featured on envelope as well as additional characters like The Phantom (two different), Barney Google, Maggie and Jiggs, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Huckleberry Finn and other characters from Popeye (Olive Oyl, Wimpy and SweetPea), Blondie (Dagwood, Cookie and Alexander) and Flash Gordon (Dale Arden, Dr. Zarkov and Kang). Set was sold for 10¢ during the 1940s. Envelope is lightly aged w/archival tape repair to inside of flap. Still VF overall. Transfer sheets are unused and Exc. Rare and obscure item w/great comic character crossover appeal. First we've seen in our 56 years. Harry Matetsky Collection.
