Item Description
1" w/back paper of the Baltimore button maker Hyatt M'F'G Co. The button depicts a skimmer hat wearing duck engulfed in a cloud of his own cigar smoke. The Evening Sun of Saturday June 21, 1913 carries the page 5 banner headline announcement: "Big Demonstration Will Be Held At Oriole Park Friday Afternoon" plus a pair of stories titled "Booster Club To Meet On Monday" and "Two Hundred Rooters Are Ready To Pull For The Birds". In addition, the newspaper, between these two stories, ran a large cartoon titled "Jest Dreamin" wherein the same cigar smoking duck comments on a sleeping man "I Bet He's Dreaming About the Team". The cartoon has the same artist's signature as appears on this button "Bibbs". Following the Club organizational meeting on Monday June 23 when the Orioles took on Montreal, the club debut was announced for Friday, June 27 when the Orioles were to face "Joe Kelley and his Toronto Leafs". Just a few months later, the Baltimore Sun would be the first local newspaper to picture the International League Baltimore Orioles' newest bonus baby, a fellow by the name of George Herman "Babe" Ruth. Rare. Glossy and Exc.
